The Gray Man 2
The Gray Man is available to watch on Netflix now and if you have seen and enjoyed this thrilling action movie, you will understandably be interested in a sequel. But will we see a follow-up movie? Here’s what we know.
What is The Gray Man about?
The Gray Man, which was directed by The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame), is based on Mark Greaney’s novel of the same name. The movie stars Ryan Gosling as the character of the title, a skilled operative working for the CIA, whose life is put in danger when a former colleague puts a bounty on his head. He is hunted across the globe by former agency member Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) but thanks to his special set of skills and the assistance of fellow agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas), he is able to stay alive, despite his foe’s best attempts to take him out. To say any more would move this article into spoiler territory so just in case somebody puts a bounty on our head, we will say no more here.
Will We Get To See The Gray Man 2?
There is definitely scope for more adventures as there have been ten novels in The Gray Man series so far. But does this mean there will be a sequel? The Russo Brothers have hinted at a larger narrative universe for Court Gentry (Gosling), aka Sierra Six, also known as The Gray Man, so they are clearly interested in the prospect. In an interview with Digital Spy, Anthony Russo said: After the success of the Avengers movies, it could be assumed that Netflix would hand the Russo Brothers the keys to another franchise possibility. And if you have assumed this too, you are right! “Part of our effort to do that was also just the size of the ensemble. We have a lot of characters in the movie played by many wonderful actors, and our hope would be that the audiences would be interested in following any number of them.” In an alteration to what I previously stated in this post, Gray Man 2 has now been announced and a spin-off movie is on the way too.
Who could be in The Gray Man 2?
Ryan Gosling should be back for The Gray Man 2 and Ana de Armas as his agency ally will probably return too. We also expect to see Regé-Jean Page (shady CIA director Denny Carmichael), back in the sequel. There were some characters that didn’t survive the first movie but we won’t give away their identity here in case you haven’t seen it yet. As such, you shouldn’t expect to see everybody from The Gray Man‘s cast list make a return.
What could The Gray Man 2 be about?
If you are familiar with the novels, you will know more than we do about the potential plotting of the sequel. But on the basis of the first movie, we would expect to learn more about “The Old Man,” the unseen CIA head who had some kind of control over Carmichael. We also expect Dani Miranda to have a bigger part to play in the sequel as she will likely want to investigate Carmichael and the higher-ups that are protecting him. As for Gentry, he is no longer tied to the CIA at the end of the first movie but we expect him to join Miranda in her search for the truth about the dodgy goings-on within the agency. It might also be that he finds himself being hunted down again as Carmichael will still want him out of the picture! We are just speculating, of course, but if you have read the novels, let us know your theories about the sequel’s story.
What is the potential release date for The Gray Man 2?
The earliest we can expect a sequel would be 2024. The Gray Man 2 is unlikely to be released before then as it hasn’t even started shooting yet. The release date will depend on schedules lining up as both the directors and the movie’s main star have other projects that are currently in the pre-production stage. As such, it’s hard to pinpoint the sequel’s release date. This is all we know for now but we aim to update this page if and when further information about the sequel is released.
