Jurassic World: Dominion might not be the best entry in the Jurassic Park franchise – you can read our review here – but it’s still done much to stomp all over the competition when it comes to box office takings. At the time of writing, Colin Treverrow’s dino-thriller has made around $389 million worldwide but whether or not it will ever match the original Jurassic Park’s $978,167,947 still remains to be seen. The latest instalment in the franchise brings back characters old and new, with Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm joining up with relative newcomers to the series Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. We don’t get to reunite with the kids from the previous movies – don’t worry, they haven’t been eaten – but there is still room for one youngster in this latest movie, Maisie Lockwood, whose full identity we won’t spoil here. As the movie has performed well in theatres, speculation has now turned towards another movie in the series. But will there be another Jurassic Park movie? Or has the franchise now become extinct? Let’s take a closer look.
Will there be another Jurassic Park movie?
At the time of writing, another Jurassic Park movie has not yet been announced. However, that doesn’t mean the series will go the way of the real-life dinosaurs who were finally laid to rest 65 million years ago. According to series producer Frank Marshall, Jurassic World: Dominion is the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy. But there is still scope for further stories set within the universe that was originally crafted by Steven Spielberg and his writing team back in 1993. When talking to Slashfilm earlier this year, Marshall said: As it seems likely that there might be another Jurassic Park movie, there is no reason to lose hope if you are a fan of the franchise (or dinosaur movies in general). We probably won’t get to see Owen, Claire, or any of the original characters again, but it might not be time to say goodbye to the franchise’s more prickly personalities just yet!
What could happen in the next Jurassic Park movie?
It’s difficult to say at this point but as there still seemed to be dinosaurs roaming the world at the end of the last movie, outside of their usual enclosures, the sequel might lean more heavily into the destruction and devastation that they might cause. We might also see dinosaurs break out of the seemingly safe habitat that featured in the recent movie’s conclusion or we might see a new group of people landing into their enclosure to get a glimpse of them or to create more trouble. It’s possible that some of the new characters introduced in the last film will make an appearance. Director Colin Treverrow had this to say when speaking to GamesRadar. With the way technology has advanced in recent years, they could also resurrect John Hammond (that crusty old fossil from the original films) by bringing Richard Attenborough back to life with CGI trickery. This is unlikely but hey, if they can bring back a T-Rex and human clones, anything else is possible.
When could another Jurassic Park movie be released?
We can almost guarantee the next movie will be released during the summer months but as for what year this might be, we are as clueless as you presumably are. There was a 14-year gap between Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World so we might have a long time to wait. Of course, if there are plans to bring back Kayla and Ramsay as characters, we can expect to see a follow-on movie within the next 3-5 years. If any further information is released, you can expect to see coverage on TheReviewGeek. Well, that is assuming we haven’t all been eaten by dinosaurs that is, but as far as we know, there are no crackpot scientists currently experimenting with dinosaur cloning!
