Like all good things, great TV shows have to come to an end. It’s a crushing inevitability unless the TV show in question is Coronation Street, in which case you can probably expect it to go on forever! Over the years, many shows have ended, for all kinds of reasons, and if you have spent hours/days/weeks of your life binge-watching them, you might feel a sense of grief when the final credits have rolled. Perhaps you cried buckets when Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin walked down the beach together for the final time in the recently ended Grace and Frankie. Or perhaps you were left with a hole in your life when the door of the Heck family home closed for the last time in The Middle. Or you may have crawled under your duvet in sorrow when Chidi said goodbye to Eleanor in The Good Place as that show drew its last breath. Game of Thrones, Parks and Recreation, The Sopranos, Community, Crash Landing On You, Six Feet Under, Friday Night Lights, The Americans…these are just some of the other amazing TV shows that many of us have binge-watched over the years and quite possibly grieved over when they came to an end. Think about the shows you enjoyed and then deeply missed after they ended. How did you cope in the weeks and months following their demise? Coping isn’t easy. We fall in love with the fictional characters on the shows we watch and saying goodbye to them is hard. So, what can we do when the inevitable happens and the credits do start to roll for the last time? Well, here are a few ways to fill the hole in your life when your favourite show ends.

#1: Check to see if there is any fanfiction

Are you missing Agents of SHIELD? Or Heroes? Or the hastily cancelled Firefly? These are just three of the shows that have lived on through fanfiction but there are thousands more. Check out this site to see if your favourite show has had this new lease of life. If you’re missing the adventures of Scully and Mulder in The X-Files or are grieving over the recently ended Marvel show Moon Knight, you will find what you are looking for here. Of course, you don’t have to be a passive reader of fanfiction. You could write it too so if you are passionate about a particular TV show, create your own stories and bring your favourite characters back to life for your pleasure and the pleasure of people who, like you, are missing the shows that meant so much to them.

#2: Find a similar show to watch

What did you like about the show you watched? Was it a particular genre? Was it a particular theme? Did you watch it because of an actor that you liked? Think about it and then look for another show that will tick some of those boxes. You might find your next favourite TV show this way and have hours more pleasure ahead of you before you have to begin your search again. Check out some of the pages on our site for some great ideas. We have lots of 10 TV shows like… articles that will give you plenty of inspiration for your next show. Enter your favourite show into our search box to see if we have covered the program that you have liked!

Interviews, behind-the-scenes specials, bloopers, discussions, cast reunions…these are just some examples of content that can often be found online when delving into particular TV shows. YouTube is often a great place to look if you want to watch video content but you will come across articles and photos too if you Google search the show you have loved. Thanks to the internet, great shows never really die so you can fill your time with the content that you find. Getting through it all might even take you longer than the time you spent watching the show in the first place.

#4: Talk to fans of the show

You won’t be the only person going through post-series blues! There are bound to be thousands of other people out there who are feeling bereft after their favourite show has ended. So, talk to some of them! Join a Reddit or a Facebook group; visit fan conventions; get together with any of your friends who were into the same show as you. And continue your search elsewhere, both online and off, for the people that share the same TV passions that you do. You might even make a few new friends in the process!

#5: Re-watch the show

The show might be over but that doesn’t mean you can’t re-watch it all from the beginning. Especially if it’s a long-running show such as Seinfeld, Friends, and Modern Family, it might be that you have forgotten about some of the episodes anyway. Not only that, but some shows like Breaking Bad, Mr Robot and the time-travel mind-bender Dark actually benefit from an additional watch! It if makes you feel good, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t wrap yourself up in your favourite show again! These are just some of the ways to fill the hole in your life when your favourite show ends. So, if you are missing Archive 81, After Life, Batwoman, Raising Dion, Space Force, or any of the hundreds of other TV shows that have naturally ended or been cancelled, consider our suggestions to help you with the grieving process.
