Top Boy is a gritty and authentic crime drama, delivering an unflinching look at the underbelly of the criminal world, and the youths on one housing estate called Summerhouse. Since Netflix has gained the rights to this, the seasons have been longer and a lot more in-depth.
What is Top Boy Season 2 about?
This season picks up with Jamie released from prison while Dushane expands his empire, casting his sights to Morocco and Spain for lucrative shipments coming in. When a man named Juan makes a move on Dushane’s newly acquired turf and the feds start to intercept drops, Dushane sends Jamie out to try and sort this out. Only, Jamie finds his loyalty wavering. This storyline is the predominant arc but there are several other subplots that revolve around that, including a redevelopment plan for Summerhouse. With the very real threat of the residents being displaced, Amma finds herself on the verge of being deported. Only, a family tragedy hits even harder for her. Meanwhile, Shelley continues to work at her nail salon but finds a face from her past sniffing around, looking for trouble. Speaking of which, Lauryn finds herself in trouble thanks to controlling boyfriend Curtis. Lauryn’s sister Jaq serves a little better, and she has a big role to play this year, serving as Dushane’s right-hand woman. Finally there’s Sully, who remains off the grid for most of the first half until he’s thrown unwittingly into the thick of action and back to the forefront of the action. Has Top Boy been renewed for season 3?
At the time of writing, Top Boy has not been renewed for a third season. However, given the nature of the cliffhanger ending and the success this show has garnered, that could change. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, Top Boy has had a very positive reception from both critics and audiences alike. Based on this, along with the show’s continued growth and expansion plans, we predict that Top Boy will be renewed for a third season. What we know about season 3 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, the conclusion does leave the main plot line unresolved, with that absolutely shocking cliffhanger involving Jamie leaving the potential for a massive follow-up. If Netflix do decide to renew this, expect Stef and Aaron to gain revenge on Sully for what’s happened. Vee is still unaccounted for too, while there’s potential that she could rally an army from Liverpool and strike hard against Dushane.
