Renewed Or Cancelled?
Maldivas is a soapy murder-mystery melodrama on Netflix, revolving around inhabitants of a rich condo. If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled. Well, read ahead and we’ll let you know what we know so far about a renewal.
What is Maldivas about?
The story is set in the heart of a condo called Maldivas, home to several rich occupants whom we follow across the season. Milene, Rayssa, Kat and Patricia are our main protagonists, although they’re joined by Patricia’s long-lost daughter Liz too. After establishing all this, the end of the first episode shows Patricia’s apartment set on fire by an unknown assailant. And even worse, Patricia herself was stuck inside at the time and dies. This murder mystery forms the crux of the story, which plays out with a fair few twists and turns over the course of the 7 episodes. Has Maldivas been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Maldivas has not been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, there’s certainly room for a sequel but we now have proper confirmation from Netflix over the future of this Brazilian series… it’s not good news. Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate per episode. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars). Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. With all that in mind, Maldivas’ mixed reception and lacklustre views means the streaming giants have decided not to renew this show. What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. It seems like this is the end of the road for our characters unless another network pick this one up. That seems highly unlikely and given the ending is pretty final, we at least get a decent conclusion to send this one off into the sunset! Would you like to see Maldivas return for a second season?
