Renewed Or Cancelled?
Bulgasal: Immortal Souls is an epic fantasy k-drama and the latest weekend Korean IP to drop on Netflix. Generally each episode is uploaded quickly after broadcast in Saturdays and Sundays, with the hard-working subtitle team translating quickly. This 16 episode drama has been quite the turbulent ride over the weeks, but after that happy ending, you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled.
What is Bulgasal: Immortal Souls about?
Bulgasal: Immortal Souls is an epic fantasy and supernaturally charged k-drama. There are certainly echoes of Goblin and Arthdal Chronicles here so if that delightful blend sounds good, you’ll love what tvN have cooked up! The story centers on Dan Hwal, who was a human 600 years ago. Cursed by the being known as Bulgasal since birth, Hwal sets out on a revenge mission to reclaim his soul and end his epic revenge. The foe here falls to a guy called Eul-Tae (Dark Hole) who becomes integral to this plot and could hold more than a few secrets about the past. We have ongoing coverage for Bulgasal: Immortal Souls across the site, including recaps for all 16 episodes. Feel free to check them out HERE!
Has Bulgasal: Immortal Souls been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, tvN has not renewed Bulgasal for season 2. Given the conclusive nature of the ending, plus the ratings over the weeks, it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed but hey, stranger things have happened! After all, Tales of the Nine Tailed was also renewed last year and that had a rather similar story to this one. The ratings began with a pretty decent 6.346% nationwide and has been steadily dropping, settling between 3% and 4% over the weeks. The highest rating has been that aforementioned premiere episode. Given this is a weekend drama, that’s pretty average on the whole. Based on this, coupled with the fact most k-dramas wrap up their stories in a single season so we predict that Bulgasal will not be renewed. We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. However, there is a possibility that tvN do renew this, depending on how the ending is received from audiences so we’ll have to wait and see. We generally aim to update this page when more information becomes available. Would you like to see Bulgasal: Immortal Souls return for a second season? Or do you think the story has run its course?
