Although this does improve as the episodes tick by, whether you’ll make it far enough to see this narrative close out remains to be seen. If you can take to the slow pacing and warm to the supernatural mystery surrounding this one, Green Frontier certainly makes for a decent watch, albeit one you’ll be unlikely to return to in a hurry when the dust has settled. The story here revolves around an aboriginal tribe deep in the heart of the jungle. When a young, Bogotá-based detective named Helena is drawn into their homeland to investigate four femicides, what follows is a crime drama swimming in mystery, supernatural elements and tension. Yua from the Arupanis tribe is interestingly depicted, with his healing power a constant source of mystery throughout the series. As the episodes progress, we also learn more via flashbacks about Ushe, the girl found dead in the first episode, and this does help add some context to the narrative as a whole. Toward the back end of the series the pacing certainly improves and some of the later episodes are exciting enough to feel like the series is moving at a decent enough speed. Whether you’ll make it that far though is still up for debate. With a plethora of flashbacks and slow paced episodes throughout, Green Frontier does take a while to get into its story but eventually it does deliver the goods. It’s all pretty compelling stuff but frustratingly a lot of the compelling content is constantly held back by the glacial pacing. The series could easily have been chopped to half its run-time but in true Netflix fashion, the series feels bloated and unnecessarily over-long. It’s a shame too because I can’t help but feel if this was a pacey four-episode thriller, a lot more people may stick with this for the long haul. Still, it’s not all bad though and Green Frontier is certainly an enjoyable show. It’s probably not the easiest to binge-watch thanks to its pacing but if you can take to the supernatural elements and fancy something a little more thought provoking than your usual slew of crime thrillers, Green Frontier might just do the trick. It may not be the best series out there but Green Frontier is certainly worth a go, just be prepared to go in with some serious patience to get to the good stuff.
