Best GOT7 Park Jinyoung Dramas & Movies
K-pop idols moonlighting as actors is a double-kill for all fans of K-pop and K-dramas. The third-gen boy group GOT7 features not one but two idol actors including Park Jinyoung who started his journey as an actor before debuting with the boy group. Over the years, Jinyoung has starred in multiple Korean dramas as well as movies, and post his exit from the K-pop label – JYP Entertainment, the idol actor signed an exclusive acting contract with the label BH Entertainment. The last few months saw Jinyoung blow into a full-blown actor as he starred in not one but two seasons of the show, Yumi’s Cells. Not only that but the GOT7 member appeared in two different movies that were released all in 2022 promising a budding acting career for the K-pop idol. Yumi’s Cells 1 and 2 (2022)
With Park Jin-young playing the role of Yoo Ba-bi (Bobby), Yumi’s love interest throughout the two seasons of Yumi’s Cells, the 2021-2022 K-drama follows the romantic life of a young woman named Kim Yu-mi. Yumi may appear to be just like every other single working woman but she is facing a love drought after suffering a painful breakup. The romantic cells in her body have fallen into a deep coma. Throughout the two seasons of. the show, Yumi tries to find love first with Goo Woong, a game developer who has just as complex emotions as herself. She also finds herself weirdly attracted to her colleague, Yoo Ba-bi whose personality brings calm to the storm of emotions in Yumi’s life.
Yaksha: Ruthless Operations (2022)
The 2022 Korean movie released on Netflix this April and follows the story of a ruthless leader of an overseas black ops team. Nicknamed so after a human-devouring spirit Yaksha, Ji Kang-in takes up a dangerous mission in a city riddled with spies. Park Jinyoung plays the role of Jung-dae, the youngest member of the Black Team. Kang-in is a cold-blooded man whose objective is to get to his goal by using any means he possibly can. One day, Ji Hoon, a prosecutor in the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office is demoted to Shenyang, China. There, Ji-hoon comes up against Kang-in.
The Devil Judge (2021)
The 16-episode 2021 K-drama, The Devil Judge follows the story of a dystopian version of present-day Korea where daily life is chaos and society has collapsed to the point that people openly voice their distrust and hatred for their leaders. In this world bereft of law and order, Head Trial Judge Kang signals the need for change. Kang Yo-han earns the title of the ‘Devil Judge’ because his courtroom is actually a reality show where he mercilessly punishes the guilty. Yo-han’s biggest rival is Jung Sun-ah who has risen from poverty to become a corporate social responsibility foundation director. Into this turbulent world enter two childhood friends on a quest for true justice: rookie Judge Kim Ga-on (played by Park Jin-young) and Police Officer Yoon Soo-hyun.
When My Love Blooms (2020)
The 2020 K-drama follows the story of Han Jae-hyun (played by Park Jin-young) and Yoon Ji-soo who met and fell in love when they were university students. The old flames cross paths 20 years later. Now, Jae-hyun has become a successful businessman who pursues wealth and honor, while Ji-soo is a mother and a contract worker living a difficult life.
He is Psychometric (2019)
The show sees Park Jin-young take a lead role for the first time and the 2019 K-drama He is Psychometric follows the life of Lee Ahn (played by Jin-young) who loses his parents as a child to a tragic accident in a residential complex. Following the accident, Lee Ahn acquires the power of psychometry, the ability to read a person or an object’s past through physical contact. He decides to use it to take bad people down but is trying to take control of his powers. One day, Lee Ahn meets Yoon Jae-in who tries her best to hide her painful secrets. Together with his foster guardian, prosecutor Kang Seong-mo, and the latter’s colleague, investigator Eun Ji-soo, they team up to solve an elusive case that has been haunting the lives of Ahn, Seong-mo Jae-in over the years.
School of Magic (2017)
Starring in the 2017 web drama, School of Magic (Magic School) Park Jinyoung plays Lee Na-ra, a man who has been single his whole life. Jay is a genius magician while Jun is a medical resident who was adopted by a family in America. Lee Seong is the youngest doctor in astrophysics. Together, these four men are as different as four people can be. They all enroll into the school of magic for different reasons. These young men are lost in this era, where discussing dreams has become a luxury. They experience things that were least expected and face magical moments hidden in their daily lives.
When a Man’s in Love (2013)
Playing a supporting role in the 2013 K-drama, Jin-young plays Ddeol Yi. The show follows the life of Han Tae-sang who is a successful businessman but has a cold-blooded decisiveness and incredible drive. This helped him to attain his current status, as he started with nothing. He then meets a younger woman named Seo Mi-do. Her personality reminds him of his younger self. Han Tae-sang begins to feel love for the first time in his life because Seo Mi-do is full of ambition. The show also features Jay B from GOT7 in the supporting role as Seo Mi-joon.
Dream High Season 2 (2012)
With a completely new cast for it’s second season, the 2012 K-drama Dream High 2 follows the story of the high school being taken over by an Entertainment company called – Oz Entertainment. after going into financial bankruptcy. The company transfers its young idols-in-training to the high school. These idols in training clash with the current students including Park Jin-young playing Jung Ui-bong. Rivalries erupt as well as secret crushes and unexpected alliances form throughout run of the show. The show also features GOT7’s Jay B in the lead role as JB or Jang Woo-jae.
Bonus: The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016)
The 2016 K-drama stars Lee Min-ho in the lead role where he plays Heo Joon-jae / Kim Ryung. Park Jin-young plays the role of younger Heo Joon-jae. The fantasy drama follows the story of Shim Chung, a mermaid who follows her one true love, a nobleman’s son named Kim Ryung from the Joseon Dynasty, to modern-day Seoul. Ryung’s modern doppelgänger is Heo Joon-jae, a highly skilled scam artist who first becomes interested in Shim Chung because of a jade bracelet worth $6 million that she wears.
