The Canadian-born actor was initially scouted by the K-pop agency, JYP Entertainment and was going to make his K-pop debut with the boy group, GOT7. However, as his fate turns out to be, he was too tall to be an idol. Hyo-seop made his acting debut as early as 2015 but was only able to bag a lead role in 2017 with the K-drama, Queen of the Ring. Now as Ahn Hyo-seop has not one but two K-dramas slated for 2023, let us take a look back at the actor’s most notable K-drama appearances over the years.
Abyss (2019)
One of the shows Ahn Hyo-seop was best known for is the 2019 K-drama Abyss. The show is a fantasy drama that tells the story of a man and a woman who tragically die and are given another chance at life through soul-reviving marbles in a magical abyss. After a tragic accident, the extremely beautiful and charming Go Se-yeon dies and is reincarnated into a common woman’s body. Cha Min (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), who thinks he is unattractive receives a similar kind of transformation when he is reincarnated to look like an exceedingly handsome man. Together, Go Se-yeon and Cha Min begin to work as a lawyer and an administrator at a private law firm and decide to investigate the magical incident. Romance blooms in the office as the two intertwine together to accept their same fate.
Dr Romantic Season 2 (2020)
The 2020 K-drama is now coming back for Season 3 where Ahn Hyo-seop will reprise his role as Dr Seo Woo-jin. Dr Romantic 2 is set in the backdrop of a small, humble hospital called Doldam Hospital. The story follows the journey of Kim Sa-bu, a genius doctor who once gained fame as a top surgeon at a huge hospital but eventually left it to run a local, Doldam Hospital. Due to the lack of skilled surgeons in his hospital, Kim Sa-bu decides to go to a huge hospital to find dedicated surgeons. All he could find is two people who resemble his former students but seem much more lacking. They are Seo Woo-jin who would do anything for money and Cha Eun-jae who gets nauseous every time she tries to perform surgery.
A Business Proposal (2022)
Popular 2022 K-drama, A Business Proposal, follows the story of a common girl named Shin Ha-ri who is tasked by her best friend, Jin Young-seo to go on a blind date that Young-seo’s rich father set her up for. Young-seo wants to fall in love and only marry after instead of getting into an arranged marriage. She gets Ha-ri to go on the date with Businessman, Kang Tae-moo (played by Ahn Hyo-seop). Ha-ri unwillingly agrees without knowing that Tae-moo is actually the CEO of the company she works for. A comedy of errors follows when Ha-ri’s attempts to set Tae-moo off fail and the man is much more determined to marry her – aka, Young-seo.
Queen of the Ring (2017)
Over it’s 21 episodes, the 2017 K-drama narrates the story of a society where people are judged by appearances. This fantasy-romance drama series follows a girl named Mo Nan-hee who finds a magical ring that transforms her into the most datable person. Meanwhile, Park Se-gun (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) is the most popular guy on campus for his looks and is known to be shallow because he only dates attractive girls. Se-gun falls head over heels for Nan-hee after she is transformed due to the magical ring.
Lovers of the Red Sky (2021)
The 2021 historical drama, Lovers of the Red Sky is set in the Joseon Dynasty and follows the story of a young woman named Hong Chun-ki. She is a painter – a true rarity in Joseon Korea and adding to that she was born blind but somehow managed to acquire a sense of vision. Now that she has been accepted into the most prestigious art college in the land, she meets Ha-ram (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), an astrologer whose fate is the polar opposite of her own. Although he was born sighted, he lost his vision in a childhood accident. The duo is sucked into the machinations of the royal court as they develop a unique romance.
Top Management (2018)
The 2018 YouTube Original web series, Top Management is a show based on an internet novel. Top Management tells the story of a new manager at an entertainment agency who uses her ability to see the future to succeed in the industry. Ahn Hyo-seop plays Hyun Soo-yong in the show which also stars other famous names like Astro’s Cha Eunwoo as well as Hip-Hop rapper, a.mond among others.
Thirty But Seventeen (2018)
The 2018 show narrates the story of Woo Seo-ri, a violin prodigy at 17 who was about to study in Germany. After getting into a bus accident, Seo-ri wakes up after being in a coma for 13 years. Mentally she is still only 17, while physically she is now 30. Meanwhile, after experiencing a similar trauma 13 years before, Gong Woo-jin does not want to have a relationship with anyone. This series is about a man and a woman whose lives stopped in their own ways when they were 17. The two get together and try to seek the happiness that they once lost years ago. Ahn Hyo-seop plays Yoo Chan in the show.
Entertainer (2016)
The 2016 K-drama, Entertainer follows the life of Shin Seok-ho, a manager who finds success in raising a highly popular idol group named Jackson. He hopes for more success as he plans to take his group and build his own label, but he eventually falls flat on his face. He deceives people to find his way back to the top and meets Jo Ha-neul, who gave up his dreams to become a singer after losing his parents.
