So without further ado, we present 8 games to check out if you’re looking for a game like Fire Emblem.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked

Advance Wars

Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy game with a cartoon-like art style and militaristic themes. This game was developed by Intelligent Systems, the same team responsible for the Fire Emblem franchise’s development. On that note, this game features wonderful strategic gameplay wrapped up in a compelling and memorable narrative. Unlike Fire Emblem, Advance Wars isn’t one of Nintendo’s front-runner franchises. However, there’s hope for Advance Wars’ future concerning the anticipated remake titled Advance Wars: Reboot Camp set to be released in the Nintendo Switch’s future. With a vast amount of attention, maybe Nintendo will consider it a staple franchise as with Fire Emblem in the prior decade. For those unaware, Advance Wars has you play as the tactical adviser for the Orange Star Army, who must move land, air, and naval units across different battlefields. Your mission is to defeat enemies and capture towns and bases to maintain peace. This game follows a slew of commanding officers, each with their own powers and traits for you to utilize in combat.

Pokémon Conquest

Pokémon is a worldwide phenomenon that has garnered an immense amount of revenue for its company. Regardless if the company produces a grand or meaningless title, the brand remains dominant over others desiring to replicate the same success. While the mainline games have been a hit or miss with fans, many adore when The Pokémon Company delivers a refreshing and engaging spin-off title. Enter Pokémon Conquest, a game that strips away Pokémon’s typical formula and replaces it with tactical-based gameplay. Like Fire Emblem, this title offers a-more adult-focused storyline with historical influences. This is because this game is a fusion between the Nobunaga’s Ambition series and the Pokémon franchise. The former’s grid-based gameplay meshes with Pokémon’s “rock-paper-scissors” styled approach wonderfully, allowing for more emphasis on strategy than sheer luck. If you’re looking for a Pokémon spin-off title that’s rich in story and gameplay like Fire Emblem, I’d recommend scouting for a copy of Pokémon Conquest.

Digimon Survive

As with its more-popular monster-taming counterpart, Digimon has experimented with and explored different gameplay genres over the years. Although many fans adore its Digimon World and Digimon Story-based games, its developers adore tackling newer territory with the franchise. Enter Digimon Survive, a visual novel with tactical and strategy gameplay elements. Like Fire Emblem, this game features thrilling and chilling scenarios concerning grief, death, and despair. The relationships between the characters in both titles also serve as the game’s most attractive element. Digimon Survive favors storytelling a bit more than Fire Emblem, though. It doesn’t feature an even split between tactical grid-based gameplay and visual storytelling either. However, if you’re someone that adores playing the Fire Emblem franchise for its rich narratives and plot twists, you’ll enjoy your time with Digimon Survive.

Project X Zone 2: Brave New World

Project X Zone 2 is a stellar tactical RPG title. It not only offers an engaging storyline and addictive battle system, but it features a slew of heroes and villains from across the gaming industry. You can expect characters from Capcom’s Mega-Man to interact with real individuals like Segata Sanshiro. The dialogue in this game is fun, humorous, and emotional. You’ll find yourself rooting for your favorite characters and finding a character that appeals to you from a franchise you’ve never heard about. The protagonists Reiji Arisu and Xiaomu have wonderful chemistry amongst themselves and the entire cast. Like Fire Emblem, you’ll control a unit of characters and move them across a grid-like map to engage in combat. The combat itself is more action-packed and hands-on than Fire Emblem, though. You’ll find yourself pressing different buttons to utilize different combos. While the combos for each character are the same, they all have two distinct super moves that you can use against foes.

Shining Force II

Final Fantasy Tactics

Triangle Strategy

So there we have it, our 8 video game picks to keep you busy after playing some Fire Emblem. The game’s difficulty is on par with what you expect from the Fire Emblem franchise. However, this game offers a few pointers and tips to those who are inexperienced with these tactical and strategy games. It gives you time to breathe and test out the skills and weaknesses of your units. Fire Emblem fans looking for a game that blends retro visuals with modern gameplay elements should give Triangle Strategy a chance. What do you think of our picks? Do you agree? Are there any notable omissions? Let us know in the comments below!
