That said, Another and Doubt are shrouded in mystery and have various tense moments that’ll keep you entertained. This story follows Kouichi, who befriends Mei, a quiet and collected girl who keeps to herself. Although everyone warns Kouichi to stay away from Mei, he can’t help but ignore them. As he becomes more enthralled by Mei’s presence, strange deadly circumstances start occurring around our cast. Characters in both series get picked off one by one. This leads to mass hysteria and causes our cast to form questionable opinions toward those around them. Readers will enjoy the horrific imagery and creepy atmosphere both stories evoke. If you’re looking for a spooky tale that’ll keep you guessing then check out Another.
Werewolf’s Game – Giggle Akiguchi
Similarities – Story Structure & Violence
Werewolf’s Game is not too off from feeling like a clone of Doubt. Both stories involve a group of humans participating in a deadly activity where their lives are on the line. Both evoke the same atmosphere as the Saw franchise, where the players must point out and murder the evil mastermind hiding within their group. On that note, Werewolf’s game features extreme gore. The ways our characters get murdered will leave a lasting dreadful memory in your mind. You’ll sympathize with our cast and their situation. Both stories give our characters enough flesh to warrant your attachment to them. While it won’t be as much as you’d prefer, it gets the job done. In Werewolf’s Game, there are multiple killers instead of one and the series revolves around a female protagonist. This adds more suspense and makes the manga feel more daunting than Doubt. Our story follows Shuuya Nanahara and his classmates participating in a game called The Program. In it, Shuuya and the others will be quarantined on an island with metal explosive collars attached to their necks. To attain freedom, they must murder everybody and become the last person standing. Shuuya vows to go against the host’s evil ways and plans to escape the island without killing anyone. Our characters display realistic reactions to matters. Several decisions they make will make your blood boil. It doesn’t hold back from its gruesome violence and you’ll notice firsthand how dark Battle Royale can become. With some emotionally moving scenarios sprinkled here and there, Battle Royale is a thrill ride you don’t want to miss.
Deadman Wonderland – Kazuma Kondou & Jinsei Kataoka

It remains a crime that Deadman Wonderland never received a faithful anime adaptation. Although the anime had some solid voice acting and battles, it didn’t contain as much depth as Kazuma Kondou and Jinsei Kataoka’s source material. The manga spends more time fleshing out our cast and progresses the story in a direction that would’ve been great to see animated. Nonetheless, if you enjoyed the deadly and psychological antics of our cast in Doubt, you’ll get a kick out of Deadman Wonderland’s endearing storytelling. It follows a high school student named Ganta Igarashi, who witnesses his class get murdered by a mysterious supernatural figure called the Red Man. Unfortunately, Ganta gets tried in court for the crime and is sentenced to Deadman Wonderland. In this prison-like amusement park, he must battle other blood-bending prisoners with sadistic personalities. With the help of his mysterious childhood friend, Shiro, Ganta vows to bring the person who murdered his companions to justice.
Liar Game – Shinobu Kaitani
Similarities – Human Nature & Psychology
Are you in need of another manga that delves into the psychology and darkness of human nature? If so, Liar Game wishes to please you with its incredible mind games, an engrossing storyline, and fun characters. This series revolves around Nao Kanzaki, a person who accepts an invitation to join Liar Game. This is a tournament where the winner can walk away with much money by deceiving fellow players. The loser will be given a lifetime debt. Nao receives help from a former prisoner named Shinichi Akiyama. As they play, Shinichi and Nao will discover the dark roots that lie underneath Liar Game’s facade. Liar Game is filled with many scenes depicting our chaarcters outwitting each other to avoid defeat. Although the characters in Liar Game aren’t fighting for survival, the manga offers enough mysteries and twists to consider it a worthy follow-up after you complete Doubt. Shinobu Kaitani’s art style isn’t worth ignoring either. Folks looking for an intelligent cast of deceitful individuals should consider picking up a copy of Liar Game.
Hanged Doll – Team Getname
Similarities –Realistic Psychological Thrillers
Hanged Doll is one of those stories where it’s best to go into it without any knowledge. This is a survival game-themed work that genuinely pleasing art style, countless mind-games, and fast-paced storytelling to keep you hooked. While you will get a brief insight into the characters’ backgrounds, you don’t receive too much intel as to where it conflicts with the story’s overarching plot. The way Team Getname introduces these segments feels authentic and flows well with our characters’ mission. The series’s final chapters will leave you speechless and clamoring for more. It’s a shocking conclusion that’ll leave you wondering why you didn’t assume it’d be the route the author would take. The artwork begs much to be desired and doesn’t give off as creepy a vibe as Doubt. If you’re okay with that, then you’ll enjoy Hanged Doll.
Real Account – Okushou
Similarities – Survival Horror & Psychological Thriller
Real Account and Doubt tackle the survival horror and psychological thriller genres similarly. They involve humans getting tossed into a game-like setting where wanting to survive lingers in their minds. The games established in both harbor specific rules, and going against those regulations could result in tragic occurrences. Real Account offers better artwork than Doubt. It’s also not afraid to add touches of comedy and relationship tropes to spice things up. Despite Real Account’s lacking in the creepy department, you’ll be immersed in Okushou’s endearing storytelling techniques and Shimizu Watanabe’s immersive art style. Real Account follows Ataru Kashigawa, who spends his time scouring the popular social media app Real Account to escape reality and connect with his followers. One day, Ataru gets whisked away into Real Account’s virtual setting and must participate in horrific death games alongside ten thousand other users. Dying in this game means you and your followers will perish in the real world. Having no followers means you suffer instant death. With one follower to his name, Ataru much complete several challenges if he hopes to return home.
Alice In Borderland – Haro Aso

Alice In Borderland is an incredible survival game-themed manga with well-written characters, a thrilling plot, and incredible artwork. Haro Aso balances the series’s friendly and dark atmosphere well. You’ll find yourself enjoying the characters implemented in this narrative because of how close to reality they appear. Aso includes some intriguing takes on the death games present in the manga. The games can vary in category and difficulty level. As our characters progress ahead, the games tend to get more devastating and mind-numbing. As mentioned earlier, Aso isn’t afraid to take slight detours from the thrilling action to give readers more insight into the characters. While some may not like this idea, others will appreciate it. Our story revolves around high school student Ryouhei Arisu. He adores spending time with his friends Daikichi Karube and Chouta Segawa and escaping life’s issues. One day, some fireworks light the sky, causing Arisu and his friends to fall unconscious. The trio wakes up and finds themselves in a wasteland. These friends explore the area and come across a festival venue. This will serve as their first deadly game under the moniker the Borderland.
