Gonna Take You Right Into The Dark Zone With Gotham now into its last season before it comes off air, the third episode of this fifth season continues to impress with another solid 45 minutes of action. With a smartly worked dual storyline and some interesting characterisation, the gang wars and Selina’s crusade to find Jeremiah both see some serious development this week. The latter resulting in quite the surprising appearance from a new face in Gotham....

Sex, Drugs & Rock’n’Roll The Dirt is one of those films that’s likely to be loathed by critics but loved by fans. Ultimately, this balance makes The Dirt a decidedly polarizing film, one that adds a massive amount of shock factor to its first half before slamming into the more dramatic beats of the film late on. Armed with an eclectic selection of Mötley Crüe’s best songs, The Dirt does pale compared to other music biopics but there’s enough here to make for an enjoyable film nonetheless....

Humbling & Harrowing Based on real events and set in the heart of Nazi Germany, The Photographer Of Mauthausen is a brutal, methodically paced journey through the horrors of the Mauthausen Holocaust Camp. Following the exploits of Spaniard Francesc Boix in the Austrian concentration camp, this 110 minute film is shocking, well written and humbling in equal doses. After a brief explanation as to who these prisoners are, the opening act of the film shows a group of prisoners taken to Mauthausen and promptly stripped and shaved....

Lightning Yellow Hair Episode 7 of 1883 starts with the caravan on the move, navigating across the vast expanse of dry, flat plains. There’s been nothing but grass for them to look at in over a week. The plains are also ominously littered with bones; an eerie bit of foreshadowing, given the skeletal remains of animals and the makeshift gravestones. This land belongs to thee Indians though and as the caravan crosses, they pay their tax on the land....

This is a struggle made all the more difficult as Johnson and his lawyer Franklin Roberts (Courtney B. Vance) find themselves in the eye of the storm as police and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong. Having not read the original manga, there’s been a lot of buzz online recently about this adaptation, with concerns around whether the story would live up to expectations. Split across 12 episodes, 7Seeds gets off to a good start across its first part, with some intriguing character development, a good use of flashbacks and a continuing evolution of the mystery surrounding the project and group....

Not The End The season 2 finale of A Discovery Of Witches begins with Diana finally harnessing her powers and tying the threads together. Goody oversees her progress but this intimate threadwork comes to an abrupt end when the visions shimmer out and fade. There’s another Weaver in London. Their arrival is certainly no accident but for now, Goody tells Diana to hold tight and let them come to her. With this weighing heavily over her, Diana walks through the streets with Diana but pauses when he smells coffee....

Despite a strong opening and charming acting from human and canine alike, the middle portion of the film feels like filler. The acting is okay and the plot just about works but it does feel like some of the scenes are deliberately placed for tear-jerking moments. Tonally, the film is all over the shop, jumping from slapstick comedy to melodrama and back again. The sudden jump in mood makes the film feel disjointed which further hurts the overall effect of the film....

The End? Are Gwi-Nam and Cheong-San dead? Episode 12 of All of Us Are Dead starts this finale with a grim shot of the construction site. Numerous bodies line the floor, including the infected horde and both Gwi-Nam and Cheong-San. These guys are definitely deceased. Over at the quarantine center, Assemblywoman Kim rips up her resignation letter, unwilling to be a part of this devastation. At the same time, the poor girl Jae-Ik saved sobs while Jae-Ik himself looks on in shock at what’s happened....

Post Traumatic Stress All Rise returns this week with its usual court drama, giving us a conclusion to the Benner story while carrying on developing its different characters and their story lines. It also tackles another interesting subject around veterans suffering from PTSD and not receiving the right treatment, which is an ongoing issue both sides of the pond right now. While the drama itself does feel a little repetitive, these subjects help the show from becoming too stale in its formulaic set-up....

An Enjoyable & Heartwarming Drama Within 10 minutes of watching this Netflix Original, you’d be forgiven for writing All Together Now off as just another teen movie. The musical montages, the uplifting and jovial tone and the obvious feel-good message about following your dreams fools you into letting your guard down. Only, All Together Now bait and switches its premise midway through, changing from a quirky teen drama to something much more poignant and reflective....

The Tenuous Grip Episode 2 of Anne Boleyn begins with the Queen conflicted, shedding tears and haunted by the echoes of her miscarriage. Her nipples are leaking, and the servants bustle around trying to keep her positive. A month has passed and Anne has four months left to live. A slick rotating shot ensues as whispers of dissent echo in Anne’s memory. With Henry busy in Westminster and his mood growing ever darker, Anne is told by her Uncle to be careful....

D-Day Episode 10 of Another Life begins this finale with William and Eric absolutely fine. Because of course they are. The Achaians have been destroyed though and that prompts Niko and the others to confront Seth and try to negotiate terms once more. What are the Achaian terms for peace? Through Seth, we learn that the Achaians are not actually peaceful creatures after all. With 59 Achaian Rings zeroing in on Earth, the Achaians have some steep terms to avoid all-out war....

It’s long been tradition that video game adaptions to film have been average at best. Assassin’s Creed looked promising from the opening five minutes and it’s trailers, depicting some breathtaking set pieces, looked set to possibly buck that trend. Unfortunately for Assassin’s Creed, weak storytelling and an inability to gain an emotional attachment to it’s character is it’s biggest downfall. The film follows Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) who discovers he is a descendant of a secret society of Assassins....
